Pro Tennis Talk 6 days, 22 hours ago · updated 5 days, 19 hours ago(Not so) patiently waiting for @ben1984 to detail all the Davis Cup drama! I heard Team Canada wasn’t so much a ’team’ as it was a bunch of singles players not high-fiving one other. What gives?
-
yeahhh! As great as it was to be there, I did find the energy a little lacking! I couldn’t tell if it was just me or what but the first day of singles was a little blah for me ha ha. Not the best description but there wasn’t much to really get the crown going. Yes, Raonic did win his match and with some close points but it didn’t really…[Read more]

Dirt! More dirt! What was it like seeing Tsonga? And why did Posposil play him first? And you had a marching band in the crowd on Friday? Yes, I liked Dancevic’s attitude and energy. I still don’t quite know why his didn’t go farther. No one big shot?
So… who’d you meet, what’d you see… come on! Details!-
Tsonga was pretty awesome to watch. He moves really well for a big guy but that’s no surprise. Pospisil did a couple really good drops shots that I was sure he would never get to and not only did he run them down, he got it back over with interest. Dancevic has a pretty decent first serve, when he got it in and even the kick second serve…[Read more]

PS. Good stuff about Nestor. I agree – he didn’t seem to rise to the occasion. His first serve seemed to be a mess. But Llodra is reeeeealy good. Much improved in singles, also. Thanks to Mauresmo, I hear.
-
PPS. Bummer about the tickets for Day 3. I saw so many empty seats, though! Infurating that corporations will snatch them up, then have the audacity not to fill them!

Pro Tennis Talk 1 week, 2 days ago · updated 1 week, 2 days agoI must have missed the intrecate strategy. Why is Raonic not playing Tsonga this tournament? Neither the first match nor this do-or-die singles match. Poor Dancevic is the proverbial lamb.
-
Ok. This explains the last match:

LOL. Any chance you can stop by the store next week and show me how to access tennis programming via browser?

Are you wanting a link to the Davis Cup? Not sure what access you’re needing, but here’s the link:
-
Brent:
you can watch live streaming here, i think they may charge a fee for that.

I have also seen for free on tsn.ca (the australian open, some matches were broadcast online, great picture, smooth streaming)

Pro Tennis Talk 3 weeks, 1 day ago · updated 2 weeks, 3 days agoHere’s the decided teams for Davis Cup in Vancouver! I can’t wait!
Canada: Frank Dancevic, Daniel Nestor, Vasek Pospisil & Milos Raonic
France: Julien Benneteau, Michael Llodra, Gael Monfils & Jo-Wilfried Tsonga-
Eek! Gonna be tough! Even the doubles will be uphill. Who will be Nestor’s partner?
-
I didn’t hear anything yet but I can almost guarantee you it will be Nestor and Pospisil. They’re both strong doubles players and they’ve played together before!
-
Rare for me to say, but I don’t have high hopes for les Canucks. If the French are disinterested, I feel they’ll have a shot. But pound for pound, that’s a mighty good squad from France.
Am I wrong about this? (hope so)
-
No, you’re not wrong. However, I do hope it’s not a total blow out and we give them a good fight at least.
-
Never underestimate the ambivalence of the French. If the Canadians can take an early lead, sometimes guys like Monfils just go away. Llodra, too. He can get down on himself. If Simon were there, different story. He’s the scrappiest one of all.
Do you have a big crew going?
-
Very true! Nah, just me. Roommates went in together and got me tickets to friday and saturday. Would be nice to know some other people going as well but I’ll be happy no matter what ;P
-
There will be loads of people to meet at the event, I’m sure. Nothing like sports fandom to break social barriers. I wouldn’t wear a Flames jersey, mind you…
-
Exactly! I’m sure I’ll make friends with the people around me ha ha. And no, no Flames jersey. I might be able to dig up a Canada jersey though … hmmmm.

Try roger Sportsnet, or TSN2. They typically carry tennis most of the time. the other day I watched the Fed cup

Oooh. I can *feel* the excitement building!

And? Who’s it going to be?
-
Not the one I wanted. Gutted.
-
I didn’t stay up to watch it. I did catch some during the day today at work. It looked like a good match though. Rafa needs to go back to the drawing board again :p Or else it’s just a match up that doesn’t work in his favor. Like how Fed just can’t get past Rafa.
-
Rafa was closer than close to winning. The changes he made in the “off-season” will work as long as he believes. He looked passive mid-match, and his second serve is a real weakness, but I have hope. Despite these things, he *almost* took it! That Roger doesn’t do much tinkering to his game, living and dying by his style, is why he won’t…[Read more]

I’d have predicted Milos going farther than Tomic. And I’d have been wrong. Sigh.

milos should have won it, probably lost his way due to the pressure. He lost purely on that. Playing Hewitt on his home ground is tough. It is a learning experience.
he had it all togehter in 1s set, everything wrong in the next three.

Eek. Looks like Raonic is the lone Canadian on the men’s side now. According to Yahoo Canada, the ladies are in fine form:
”Vancouver’s Rebecca Marino, Stephanie Dubois of Laval, Que., and Aleksandra Wozniak of Blainville, Que., all earned direct entry on the women’s side.” (Save me from typing it all out)Go Womenses!!
-
Yep, Polansky was the last hope but he lost in the 3rd round of the qualifying. Hope our ladies do well here. Not the easiest of draws for them.
-
A couple pundits are predicting Milos to upset some significant seed on his way to the final few. I want to say Djokovic as the upset.
-
First things first, he needs to take care of the first few match! He does have off days and can go down to a non-seed so focus, focus, focus! ha ha. He has a little bit of pressure on him as well because he needs to protect his ranking points. I think about 250 or 300 or so from this tournament alone.

Yes, his fans can jump ahead but he cannot!

I did leave my fugue to notice Verdasco looked positively ill at the end of that fifth set.

Pfft, oh Verdasco!
-
Tough to cheer for FeVer when he gives up (and when he sports a faux hawk); even tougher to cheer for Tomic… at any time. No offense to his fans – just an off-putting young man, in my opinion. Except he seemed genuine when he thanked the crowd. Ok maybe I’m torn. No I’m not. Still something veneer-y about him. Sigh, tennis fandom.

HA ha, awesome read!!! Thanks! I wish I would’ve seen the Fish/Dimitrov incident. I can’t really see Fish getting upset like that. He was the one American player who didn’t seem to throw a temper tantrum.
-
I’ve seen Fish get pissy on court, nothing like Roddick though. I remember thinking he was somewhat justified, although too whiny about it. But getting all up in Dimitrov’s grill? Qu’elle surprise!
Good press for Milos, hey? Avatar! Non sequiter: I thought his legs looked stronger in Chennai. Beefier knee muscles. Not that I was looking. -
This wasn’t what I remember, but here’s some feisty Fish circa 2008!

Best part of that article … ”Hey France, I’ve got a 151-mph serve. Try returning that with a baguette.”

Good find, Bruno! Appears less contentious than described, although Mardy *could* be dropping f-bombs while doing the arm pat.

I think he’s playing really well! He protects his service games so well he barely has to worry about it! That puts so much pressure on the opponent right at the begging of the match! Who would you guys say could give up his Top 10 spot to make room for Milos? 5 to 10 are: Ferrer, Tsonga, Berdych, Fish, Tipsarevic and Del Potro. The only guy I think Milos can consistently beat at the moment is Tipsaevic, who I’m surprised is No. 9. 11 to 15 are: Almagro, Simon, Isner, Monfils and Gasquet.
