Box leagues are gateways to frequent players. Entering a box league will put you into contact with the most frequent players in our network. Over time, if you stick with it, you will become one of “them” — a hardcore box league player. Friendships will develop and you will probably end up playing more often and at a higher level than any other point in your life.
What You Need to Know
Before entering through that gateway, there are a few things you MUST understand about box league players. You must also take the time to read and understand our most important rules. We recommend that you do this now — before you make the decision to join a box league.
NO EXCUSES
The first thing you will find out about Racquet Network box leagues is that our players and our administrators do not accept excuses. You either play or you don’t. It’s that simple. Players who do not play are removed from the league. Players who do play continue from month to month without ever having to pay additional box league fees.
PLAY OR DIE
Players who do not play — regardless of the reason — are eliminated from the league. The can re-enter the following month if they want to, but in order to do so they must re-pay their fees and they must re-enter the league through the lowest open spot.
FIVE DAY RULE
The so-called FIVE DAY RULE is our most important rule. It requires the players in each box to contact each other before the end of the 5th day of the month. Players who understand and heed this cardinal rule will earn the respect of other box league players. They will also enjoy the support and admiration of box league adminstrators who must occassionally step in to resolve disputes between players who are unable to work out scheduling issues.
KEEPING APPOINTMENTS
Once a time and place for a match has been agreed to by both players, it must be played at that time and location. If either player is unable to compete at that time and location FOR ANY REASON, he/she forfeits the match. The winner must then report the result of the match as a DEFAULT WIN for himself/herself and a FORFEIT for his/her opponent.
COMMUNICATING
Box league players are expected to communicate, communicate, communicate. Successful box league players find out who else is in their box at the beginning of the month and begin communicating with those players immediately. In general, our most successful players schedule their matches in the first 10 days of the month so that they do not run out of time.
READ THE RULES
All box league players are expected to read the rules and understand them. There are general rules that apply to all box leagues. Then there are specific rules for each league. Players are expected to read and understand both.
BOX LEAGUE SUCCESS
Success in our box leagues is measured not by wins and losses but by longevity. Players who have enough discipline to observe our most important rules and customs can stay alive for many years and never have to pay fees again. In fact, there are players in our box leagues right now who have been playing continuously since the first league started way back in 2006.
