I am going to throw my two cents in regarding play or die. Two players have been removed from the Box League for February. One did not respond to communication with the other players in his box and I can see this as being justified. The other did respond to communication but had a short term injury and thought it better to take a bit of time off.…[Read more]

Nobody has ever been kicked out for speaking their minds. Only spammers and cheaters have been kicked out.
We used to allow defaults due to injuries. Then we had a month where 75% of players claimed to be injured. In fact, only two matches were played that month. Everybody was mad. As a result the players voted to move to play-or-die.

The point is Brent, I did have my partner report the scrores as default wins for them and forfeit for me so we were not dodging our reporting duties. I was injured nearly on crutches for the whole month. What is a guy suppose to do, play in pain until you bleed ? We were honestly in reportied scores. I do agree that it is not fair some players are not playing and reporting 0-6 to stay in while other players do the right thing and report a forfeit and are removed. It would be simple enough to make the programming change to not award points to 0-6 matches so that those players are eliminated also. Or allow forfeits and see if it impacts…[Read more]

Terry never asked for help. He never let us know about his problem. He never gave us a chance the help him. Instead, he waited until it was too late and then quit in a huff.

If we allow players to forfeit without consequence, many will claim to be injured whenever it is convenient for them.

Players are removed automatically by the system according to the programming rules. Admins are also only able to add players in to the bottom of the leaugue and only after they have payed their registration fees.

@grogworld You have it wrong, Gord. Players are NOT removed manually. The system automatically removes them when they have not reported scores.
Players who follow the rules are unaffected. Only players who fail to report scores are removed.
Terry is welcome to rejoin the league. However he must follow the same rules as every other player.

Terry did follow the rules. He reported his forfeits instead of marking down false scores as the other players (who didn’t follow the rules) did.

1) Do not award points for 0-6 matches — Won’t work. 0-6 is a legitimate score. It happens often.

The only way to eliminate cheating is to eliminate box leagues.
The box leagues generate 3% of revenue and 90% of problems. They also cost us customers because players refuse to read, understand or follow the rules and end up quitting the network when they are eliminated.
It’s time to get rid of the box leagues and focus our enegies on our ladders.

Time to let it go.. Good points were made but no one ever replied to the point of the discretionary powers of the administrators. The box leaguesw do work and most of the regular long time players enjoy them very much.

The announcement was made several weeks ago. As of May 1, 2012, all box leagues will be privatized. Players will manage all leagues.
We will no longer have company-run box leagues because players who get eliminated get mad and end up quitting the network. (It happens nearly every month.)

The ladder is a mechanism for players who are looking for other active players. The ranking system is based on the number of opponents players have played over the past 30 days.
Players who wish to rise to the top of the ladder must play at least 3 different players in a month and have a high winning percentage.

As I mention above. Terry was just confused that the software was allowing him to report a forfeit which is meaningless (same as not reporting scores). Because he was given the chance to enter it, he thought it would keep him in the league. The problem is with the software. Remove forfeit reporting and problem solved.

Not even close to solved. Players need the ability to report forfeits because players sometimes forfeit. Terry actually did forfeit. As a result, he was eliminated — which is exactly what is supposed to happen. The system worked as it should have. He just didn’t like the result. Nobody does.

You are missing the point. Terry did forfeit. The scores were reported correctly. He did not play and was eliminated. That is exactly what was supposed to happen. No changes are needed.

He is creeping up the points ladder as well, only trailing Nadal by 3,170 with one less tournament played. We’ll have to wait and see how he does on the other surfaces.
