What does Isner have that Raonic doesn’t? I can’t believe he comes through against Kohlschreiber. This one surprised me.

That was quick! Eep, my Milos-watch in Rome is over already. I’d like to say he needs to work on his tournament-to-tournament stamina rather than wonder if he’s been struck by another injury. Like Ben mentioned, he should be competitive on grass. Can’t wait!!
-
Had Raonic beaten Florian Meyer, he would have faced Nadal in the second round. Egad! Get out of the 20s, Milos!
-
Ha ha I know! Fed twice, could have been Nadal, and Murray as well. All in the first couple rounds!
-
-
i think slow clay courts dont help his game. The faster blue clay courts suit him, so does the hard courts and obviously grass. Not sure if he can do big in grass, since he had injured previously at Wimbledon last year.

Sooo close for Milos! Gutted, but very happy for him. Creating 8 chances to break Roger is no small feat!
-
yes, it was very close. This is his biggest problem now. Find a way to close out on opportunities. I think this will come eventually.
-
Baby steps!
-
Agreed. At this time last year, he wouldn’t have come as close as he did. He just keeps on making strides every tournament!
-
Man, I can’t wait until he gets closer to top 10. His early-round opponents are brutal! A chicken-egg situation.
-
Agreed! He usually ends up playing someone in the 10 ten by the second round. He’s been doing alright though. He’ll get Fed’s number one of these times though. I see it on grass!
-
Fingers crossed and a better pair of grass-court shoes!

Is it a case of ”he who whines least, wins”? Fed is clay-crushing Tipsarevic, doesn’t seem to have the clay court blues like Nole unt Rafa.
-
Yeah, everyone has a rough week at the office. Too bad it doesn’t suit to every player’s likings but time to get over it. I think Fed has this one in the bag.
-
To me, Nole and Rafa thought bad things would happen. And then they did. Roger goes about his business, adjusting to the slippery clay, and he’s gonna win. Definitely in the bag. And Top 2 as the cherry. A big deal before the French. Of course, I hope Rafa takes it back before then.
-
Just to play devil’s advocate, maybe Roger adjusted easier to the blue clay because he’s more about natural talent than about fine-tuned skill?
-
Nole and Rafa rely on honing their skills to the point where their game becomes mechanically consistent, such that even the smallest variation throws them off, whereas ol’ Rog just goes about his business using his greatest weapon: sheer brilliance.
-
I think this argument applies more to Rafa than Nole. Novak is a cat out there – his movement and his flexibility should have been bonuses on the slick surface. Roger’s movement, of course, is his very special gift. His ability to think he can win always and on all surfaces – slippery or no – is also his special gift.

I think Fed may edge Berdych, since he is playing well too. It will be a three set match. The way Berdych played today against Delpo shows that he has improved a lot.
I love the blue clay, I hope this stays on and moves on to other clay courts. Ofcourse, technology keeps changing, they will find a way to make it more like red clay, the beauty of…[Read more]-
Sheesh, did Berdych play well or what! He looked extremely focused – that doesn’t happen consistently, though.
Fast surface, short rallies, blue in colour = hardcourts! Leave me my pokey iron oxide 6 weeks out of the year.

The ball girl models must be for the marquis matches only. Nice, normal sporty kids managing the balls in the couple of matches I’ve seen. Meanwhile, I don’t see the ball any better with the new colour. With the electronic signage (Tiriac blue) on the main court, there’s zero contrast. Plus missing torsos with the number of blue shirted…[Read more]

Too bad the Ferrero-Andreev match is cutting into the Capitals-Rangers playoff viewership, but such is the power of blue clay.

Can I purchase a new pair of outdoor court shoes fully with my Pro Shop Credits? Hope so.
-
You can buy anything our Pro Shop provided you have sufficient credits to make the purchase — including shipping and taxes. However, since you live in Calgary you’d be well advised to come into the store and try some shoes on first.
-
Yes, I was planning to come in and try some shoes. I just wanted to confirm I could cover the whole price with my credits.

Already I miss the red clay. This is a dumb warm-up for the French Open for two reasons now, not just the altitude. Obvious banker logic, as ABBA comes to mind.

Where’s the dirt on clay? I worked the election from start to finish, and then some, so I’ve been seriously out of touch. I can’t believe I missed all of Monte Carlo! Where no ugly people go to watch tennis. Not sure why Rafa chose *again* to play Barcelona. Save your knees for London! Nole loses in the first round of his parents’…[Read more]

The hours were *crazy*, and my eyeballs were like sand-covered prunes at the end of the day. I could manage listening to the radio in the wee hours, but that was about it. By the second to last day, I dreamed I murdered somebody and I was in search of a lawyer. I don’t think elections are my bag. Although the RO and I were asked to help out…[Read more]

Isner is not a kid. He is more matches than Raonic. That’s why he knows what to do in moments that really matter.
