How to Use/Understand Groups

November 25, 2011 in How Tos

Groups are new to Racquet Network. As a result, most of our 4000+ members are still figuring out how to use them.

In recent weeks, hundreds of new groups have been created to replace the old Local Networks on the old website.

Put simply, groups are communities of racquets sports players.

For example, all Calgary members who are tennis players should belong to the group called the Calgary Tennis Network. This is a FREE PUBLIC GROUP created by Racquet Network as a public service to our friends and customers in Calgary.

The same is true for players in other sports. For example, all Toronto squash players in our network should join the Toronto Squash Network. Doing this will make them part of a community of squash players who live in Toronto.

With thousands of members worldwide, Racquet Network is now too large for any one player to grasp. Groups were created to break down this larger group into smaller sub-groups in which players share sporting interests and geography.

Racquet Network currently offer groups in three categories. FREE PUBLIC GROUPS are open to the everyone and are organized geographically. We offer these groups as a public service to our friends and customers worldwide. CHAT GROUPS are also free and are organized around topics, such as PRO TENNIS TALK.

In addition to free public groups, Racquet Network also offers PREMIUM PRIVATE GROUPS. This category is home to our ladders, leagues and teams. It is also the domain of frequent players who enjoy the structures and challenges of organized activities.

How to Find and Join Groups

Click on the GROUPS tab in the Main Menu. This will give you access to the group hierarchy. Click on [+] to display any sub-groups hidden within.

Another way to find groups is to type the name of your city into the SEARCH BOX near the top right corner of the screen. Be sure to select GROUPS from the dropdown menu next to the search button, though, our you will end up with a list of members from that city.

However you find them, we recommend that new players join any FREE PUBLIC GROUPS that interest them as soon as they join the network. Doing this makes it easier everybody who wants to meet players and play racquet sports.

How to Use the Activity Stream

November 14, 2011 in How Tos

The Activity Stream gives members a big picture of everything that is happening on the website.

With thousands of members, this information is not always useful to all members. Below are some tips for narrowing the focus of the Activity stream to your particular interests.

Activity Stream

Access the Activity Stream by opening up the drop down menu under the SOCIAL tab in the Main Menu. Select ACTIVITY STREAM. This will take you to the correct page.

Spread across the top of the Activity Stream page from left to right are several tabs including: ALL MEMBERS, MY FRIENDS, MY GROUPS, MY GALLERIES and MENTIONS. Clicking on each of these tabs will change the focus of the Activity Stream immediately below them.

ALL MEMBERS broadens the Activity Stream to all members of Racquet Network.

MY FRIENDS narrows the Activity Steam to only those members the user has identified as friends.

MY GROUPS narrows the Activity Stream to only those groups that the user has joined.

MY GALLERIES narrows the Activity Stream to only galleries created by the user.

MY FAVORITES narrows the Activity Stream to only those posts that the user has bookmarked as favorites.

MENTIONS narrows the Activity Stream to include only posts that mention the user’s username (e.g. @brentjohner).

By using the tabs described above, members can narrow the Activity Stream down from thousands of members to just those that they want to know about.
