The Calgary Interclub Squash League (CISL) is Calgary’s largest squash league. It includes teams from every major squash club and serves more than 1000 male and female players at all levels from beginner to advanced. Every year there are more players trying to get onto CISL teams than there are spaces available.
Play for this league begins in September. It ends in April when teams compete in the playoffs for division titles. A large banquet and awards ceremony caps off the season and recognizes many of the players and volunteers who make the league successful.
The regular season features a set schedule during which teams play an equal number of home and away games. After every match, the home team takes the visiting team out for “beer and wings”. Although nobody is required to drink alcohol, every player is expected to participate in the post-match socials that are considered to be an essential part of CISL culture.
CISL Teams are organized into Men’s and Women’s divisions and then sorted according to skill level. Each CISL team is made up of four to six players — one of whom serves as the captain. Each team plays twice each month. Prior to each match, the Team Captain determines which four players are available and which will play in the match.
Racquet Network teams are required to carry no less than six players on their rosters in order to ensure that teams can field at least four players for every match. This reduces the number of penalties assessed against our teams for fielding an incomplete line up.
Joining the CISL
There are only two ways to get onto a CISL team: either join a squash club and play on their team or join Racquet Network and play on our team. Joining our team will save you several hundred dollars a season.
Racquet Network CISL Teams
Racquet Network sponsors several Calgary Interclub Squash League teams for men and women. The Tri Hards is a team for female squash players at the intermediate level. It entered the league in 2010/11, finished the season undefeated and was awarded the league’s highest honor for sportsmanship. In 2011/12 it was promoted from Women’s 5 division to Women’s 4 and is now Racquet Network’s top women’s squash team.
