Dura Fast 40 pickleball balls have been officially approved for outdoor use by the Canadian Pickleball Federation. This is currently the only brand to receive official sanction for outdoor use in Canada. It is also the only ball used in the Canadian National Pickleball Championships.
Dura Fast 40 Pickleball Ball – Official Outdoor Ball
At 28 grams, the Dura Fast 40 pickleball ball is the heaviest of the three balls that have been officially approved for pickleball in Canada. The additional weight of the Dura ball makes it the best ball for outdoor use because it is less easily influenced by the wind than either the Jugs ball or the Cosom ball. The downside of this additional weight is that the Dura pickleball ball can cause injuries when struck full force by a strong player.
Indoor Use
While the Dura pickleball ball is used indoors by many pickleball clubs in Canada, Racquet Network does not recommend this. Since there is no wind indoors, there is no need for the Dura’s additional weight. There is also no reason to increase the risk of injury to pickleball players.
Hardwood Floors
The Dura Fast 40 pickleball has a very smooth exterior surface. This feature can cause it to skid on hardwood floors and make it difficult to play with. Overall, this ball performs best on gritty outdoor court surfaces and on rubberized gymnasium floors.
Potential for Injury
Pickleball players should also be aware that the Dura Fast 40 pickleball ball is a heavy ball that can cause soft tissue and eye damage. For this reason, Racquet Network strongly recommends the use of protective eyewear whenever Dura Fast 40 pickleballs are in use. The Dura Fast 40 pickleball ball is recommended for adult competitive play and not generally recommended for recreational programs with children or elderly players.
