What Are Box Leagues?
April 20, 2010 in BOX LEAGUES & LADDERS
The first day of every month is an important date for Racquet Network players because it marks the start of a new round of box league play.
Players who wish to play in our box leagues next month must register before midnight on the last day this month.
Joining a box league is an excellent way to meet new players and begin building a personal player network.
Box leagues are also excellent for players who like the discipline of being required to play at least once a month.
How Do Box Leagues Work?
Box leagues are simple and fun. They make meeting people and playing regularly easy for everyone.
Each month all of the players in the league are sorted into boxes of three. Each player then contacts the other two players in his/her box to arrange a match at a public facility.
Points are awarded based on results. At the end of the month, the player with the most points moves up one box and the player with the fewest points moves down one box.
As each month progresses, the best players move up through the boxes. Eventually everybody settles in with a group of players who are at their level.
And since all new players enter through the bottom box and work their way up through the league meeting new players along the way, it is always possible to run into highly skilled players in the lowest boxes.
How to Join a Box League
Racquet Network box leagues are open to Registered League Players (RLPs). Self Serve Players who wish to join a box league must become Registered League Players first. Once they are registered, they may apply to join our box leagues.

How Much Does it Cost?
Most box leagues have entry fees of $19.95-69.95 per player. This is a one-time-only fee. As long as the player meets his/her obligation to play each month, he/she will never have to pay fees again. In fact, some players in our network have been playing continuously for four years now on the same entry fee. Because they have continued to play every month, they have never had to pay fees again.
Is there a Box League in My City?
Racquet Network creates box leagues at the request of Registered League Players. It doesn’t matter how many members are in that particular city. If six RLPs can be found who will support the league, Racquet Network will create it and administer the league on behalf of our players.
How Do I Propose a New Box League?
Any Registered League Player may group ask the Executive Director to propose the creation of a new box league. If the ED believes that the conditions are suitable or that a new league is needed, he may choose to propose the creation of a new league.
Proposed leagues that receive the support of at least six players may become active leagues and will begin play on the first day of the next month. However, leagues that drop below the required minimum (6 players) may be placed under review and, at the ED’s discretion, be downgraded to PROPOSED leagues.
